Family and friends are honestly everything in life, and it has never been more important to surround yourself with great people!
I once heard a man speak at a Monash Leadership Symposium, this name was Dennis Gentilin and he introduced me to the concept of a ‘Council of Advisors’. These people represent everything, especially whenever you may be second guessing yourself or feel you are not good enough. They give you energy and often make sure you remain on course. They help you in making tough decisions.
That’s why to is important to surround yourself with people that are invested in YOUR growth and visa versa, because life is going to present you with opportunities and challenges and most of the time you need the support group around you to feel comfortable making the right decision.
The reality is, the more successful you want to be, the more you continue to grow as a person, the sad reality is more hate will come. More people will tell you you’re not good enough, or that your idea is stupid. “No way you could do that”. People will begin to question your judgement and eyes will be sorely focused on you. Every move cross examined.
This is a blessing in disguise though, because blocking out the outside noise just makes success and wins that little bit sweeter and these people can be used as our greatest motivator! You get to share the wins with the people who matter, because they believe in YOU.
Outside noise can also come within, as self doubt is a powerful voice that can ultimately become our greatest ally, or greatest weakness.
We can’t do it all on our own and the matter of the fact is why should we?
It’s your move now…
- Pick around 5 people to be in your Council of Advisors- 5 is a great number and include family and friends. Think of it this way, if you had great news, who would be the first people you would tell??
- Never make difficult decisions on your own- Always seek outside council for a tough decision concerning your future, even though your intuition may already know the answer, it is good to gauge an outside opinion. Remember your council want what’s absolutely best for you and they will always keep that in mind
- Always be humble- You’re a product of your environment, therefore you’re a product of the people you surround yourself with. Be blessed to have great family and friends that will support you until the very end. Tough days come and go, but family and friends will always be there no matter what
- Block out the noise- People that are not interested in seeing you succeed are people you need to stay away from regarding big decisions or news. You don’t need validation from these people. The proof will be in the pudding later on down the track.
I hope we can all find our Council of Advisors! Good luck…
